Very Belated Season Opener Brief Recap

We are pleased to report that the 2012 VORRA Season Opener at Prairie City was a great time! Despite rains for days prior the race, the track finally dried enough by Sunday that the three motos from Saturday were also run on Sunday. This meant six motos with twelve laps each in one day! It was very exciting and really active – there was hardly any time between motos! Two Larrys decided to run only “Sunday’s” motos, which meant we ran the second half of the day. This caused some confusion with our competitors, haha. But it was great spectating the morning mud baths. We already knew our car was at a distinct disadvantage with our desert tires in the mud, which made skipping the morning races a slightly easier decision. While outstanding in desert races, they just don’t grip in the mud, and with the depth of the ruts we couldn’t run our shortcourse tires. The mud haunted us in the first “Sunday” moto, and second gear just couldn’t pull like it normally does, though it was better with the second and third. That didn’t stop the Green Booger from making a statement and giving photographers the shot of the year:

Many thanks again to Dianne Bennet for being at the right place at the right time. Click her name to visit the great photos at her website. The UTV’s were doing excellent with their all-wheel drive, and in the midst of trying to not interfere with their race, the Booger hit a rut and gave the spectators a good show. She came back down on all four and went on to take second in that moto! Additionally, Dianne recently took first place at the El Dorado County Fair art show with this photo, congratulations Dianne! Each team had their respective issues throughout the day. The Desert Dingos, #1107, were in and out of the motos with oil leakage and a few other debilitating issues. CBCFS Racing, #1116 blew their oil cooler the day before the race. A small note about these guys – we are pretty impressed with their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. They are brand-new to Class 11 racing, and are just barely the age to be able to drive legally on the highway. David Meek Jr. with #1142 gave great races and took the first place finish for Saturday’s races. He lost a tire and spindle during the second moto of “Sundays” races, which took him out for the rest of the day. The Desert Dawgs #1106, commonly referred to as the Petfinder Car, came back after literally catching on fire in the backstetch during the morning races and gave us a fun race during the second moto that apparently had the crowds excited too.

Overall, it was a great day! We really enjoyed meeting the new faces to Class 11 racing for the first time, and seeing familiar faces again as well. Thank you to all for a great day, and a special thank you to VORRA whom were faced with difficult decisions via Mother Nature that weekend, but really made it spectacular for the racers. Congratulations to everyone in attendance, and a special congratulations to David Meek Jr. for his first place finish in the Saturday races. Two Larrys is pleased to announce that the Green Booger took first place for the Sunday motos.
