Two Larrys Racing was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic accident during the MDR California 200, in which eight spectators lost their lives and a number of others were injured. Our thoughts and well-wishes go out to those who were involved, as well as their families. We wish quick healing their way, and hope that they can find forgiveness and not blame for what truly was an unfortunate accident.
Accidents such as this puts a perspective on not only the dangers of racing, but how important it is to pay attention and follow the rules and guidelines set by the associations. They are not there to quell our fun; they are there for our safety and if the rules are obeyed and common sense is practiced, many an accident can be avoided. Those who frequent the race scene are well aware of the dangers and why we do what we do, as well as the exhiliration and pure joy of the sport in addition to everything that comes with it. Accidents are as much a part of racing as racing the vehicle itself. Please let us not forget how hard our associations work to keep us safe, and it’s simply not possible for them to police the entire track. That is where spectator responsibility for obeying the rules comes into play. A special thank you to the emergency crews and good samaritans who offered their assistance and worked together to help those who needed it.
A truly tragic circumstance, we are so very sorry to hear of this terrible accident and sincerely wish speedy recoveries to those involved, as well as mental well-being to those who bore witness the inexpident disaster; the driver and co-driver especially. We cannot imagine what they are feeling as of now, despite their lack of fault.
